چکیده

This paper reviews the current knowledge on shrimp broodstock nutrition with special reference to developments during the last decade. Biochemical studies and diet studies are discussed with the aim of identifying the nutrients that are important to sustain optimal shrimp maturation, reproduction and offspring quality. Additionally, an overview is given of the efforts to reveal the nature of maturation-stimulating factors in fresh food, and of the use and performance of commercial and experimental artificial diets. q 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. White Spot Viral Disease in Penaeid Shrimp – A Review

The global aquaculture of penaeid shrimp has grown rapidly during the past two decades. In 1998, world shrimp farmers produced an estimated 737 200 t of whole shrimp (this includes 530 200 t from the eastern hemisphere and 207 000t from the western hemisphere), a record 12% increase from the 660 200 t produced in 1997 (Rosenberry 1998, 1999). The shrimp farming sector suffered a serious setback...

Comparative Transcriptomic Characterization of the Early Development in Pacific White Shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei

Penaeid shrimp has a distinctive metamorphosis stage during early development. Although morphological and biochemical studies about this ontogeny have been developed for decades, researches on gene expression level are still scarce. In this study, we have investigated the transcriptomes of five continuous developmental stages in Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) with high throughput I...

Ovarian Transcriptome Analysis of Vitellogenic and Non-Vitellogenic Female Banana Shrimp (Fenneropenaeus merguiensis)

The banana shrimp (Fenneropenaeus merguiensis) is one of the most commercially important penaeid species in the world. Its numbers are declining in the wild, leading to a loss of broodstock for farmers of the shrimp and a need for more successful breeding programs. However, the molecular mechanism of the genes involved in this shrimp's ovarian maturation is still unclear. Consequently, we compa...

Multiple infections in shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei broodstock in commercial hatcheries in Khouzestan Province

The present study was carried out to investigate the status of health and disease, and their impact on shrimp broodstock (Litopenaeus vannamei) in Khouzestan Province (Choeibde Area) in the south of Iran. From March 2012 until April 2013, about 140 broodstock and 5000 postlarvae (PLs) were collected from hatcheries and grow out farms. Clinical signs of samples were documented in take history fo...

Is recruitment related to spawning stock in penaeid shrimp fisheries?

The relationship between spawning stock and recruitment in penaeid shrimp fisheries has been questioned because they exhibit unique characteristics with respect to population dynamics and fisheries. This study used meta-analyses to test the null hypothesis that recruitment is a series of random, independent events based on the penaeid shrimp stocks found in published sources. Both the derivativ...
